Extended Hiatus

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on May 29, 2009 by sizzlemaker

It’s after much thought and careful consideration that we’ve decided to go on an extended hiatus from SIZZLE.

We dived into the blogging world six months ago and things have spiraled–in a good way!–since then.

We’ve learned how to use different software, participate in social media and provide a service to readers while exercising the skills we already had.

We now run three blogs and, despite our interest in the content, it’s just gotten to be too much.  Something’s gotta give.

And, unfortunately, it’s going to be our first born.

We’ll continue working on TeenDramaWhore and Breaking Tweets Entertainment.

Maybe we’ll come back to SIZZLE at some point.  Maybe we won’t.

The truth is right now we don’t know.

But we know, for now, for this site, this is it.

Much thanks and love to all our readers.

The cover of West's 52-page book.

The cover of West's 52-page book.

Chris Brown: Hours after he proclaimed he’s “not a monster” in a YouTube video, news broke that he’s been slapped with a lawsuit by a photog who claims Brown’s bodyguard beat him up.  We’d say the hits just keep on coming, but that would just be a really bad pun.

PEOPLE: Put together a handy–but short–guide to some of the celebrity deejays out there.  Kind of cool.

Perez Hilton: The culprit named in E!Online’s “Stolen Quote of the Day.” Perez stealing content?  Shocking!  Or not.

Kanye West: A self-proclaimed “non-reader” who has a book–if you can even call it that–coming out.  Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?

Bill Clinton: Reportedly a fan of 24, Mad Men and Damages.  Do presidents not like to laugh or something?

SIZZLED OUT: Amy Winehouse

STILL SIZZLING: An oft-repeated catchprase from this iconic 90s show topped the Paley Center’s list of 5o Funniest Phrases.

What do you think makes a good cover?

What do you think makes a good cover?

PEOPLE: Want to know how they choose their cover stories?  We could tell you from our own experiences, but we’ll let The New York Times do it for us.  While they don’t exactly portray the mag in the best light, it is pretty accurate–which is an improvement from the article last winter.

Jon & Kate Plus 8: Not that we didn’t already know this, but a media firestorm can really drive up ratings.  The Jon & Kate premiere more than doubled last year’s audience.  Now let’s see if they can keep it–and their marriage.

Real Housewives: Planning another spin-off, this time in Washington, D.C.  How many do we need?  Aren’t they all the same after a while?

Twitter: Is all publicity good publicity?  Time will tell, especially now that Twitter is taking heat from users (including Ashton Kutcher) about it’s supposed reality TV plans.

Twitter Pt. 2: Just discovered TruthTweet, which looks to be a great resource for identifying real celebrities and impersonators on Twitter.

New York Times: Named its very first social media editor.  A step in the right direction for a traditionally traditional news outlet, no?

SIZZLED OUT: T.I.

STILL SIZZLING: This overseas singer who (arguably, of course) can barely dress herself will be designing a fashion line.

Gibson and his new babymama

Gibson and his new babymama

Mel Gibson: We didn’t cover it previously because it was just rumor, but now his represenative is confirming the news that Gibson will be a father once again.  His girlfriend is more than 3 months along–no wonder his soon-to-be ex-wife is moving ahead with the divorce!

Mike Tyson: According to news reports, Tyson’s daughter was seriously injured yesterday after accidentally hanging herself.  Prayers to their family.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Fans have been clamoring for a movie but we don’t think this is what they had in mind.  The original 1992 film is being remade–but without Joss Whedon and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

SIZZLED OUT: Robert Pattinson

STILL SIZZLING: This rapper played his final concert this weekend since he’s due to report to prison today for a 1-year sentence on weapons charges.

Ledger in his final role.

Ledger in his final role.

Heath Ledger: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, the film Ledger was making when he died, premiered at Cannes last week.  Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t have a US release date.  Still hard to believe we’re never getting more Ledger.

Susan Boyle: Her 15 minutes of fame got extended last night when she passed the semi-final round of Britain’s Got Talent.  She’ll compete in the finals next week.

CBS: Won the ratings game overall this season by averaging the most viewers.  Sad fact remains that viewership is down and will probably only go further south.

Gawker: Predicting the songs we’ll hear again and again this summer.  Major flaw: including “No Boundaries” by American Idol’s new champ Kris Allen.  Really don’t see that taking off.

Memorial Day: It means reflection, barbecues and TV marathons depending on who you are.  Among the marathon options: Jon & Kate Plus Eight, Golden Girls, Intervention and ANTM.

SIZZLED OUT: Mickey Mouse

STILL SIZZLING: This relatively new celebrity participated in a charity auction, where he offered kisses for $20,000 each.

This your American Idol. You okay with that?

This your American Idol. You okay with that?

American Idol: Has there been a bigger upset in Idol history?  We think not.  And we totally blame all the pre-finale hoopla around Adam  Lambert for his loss.  The hype totally backfired on him!

Kanye West: Used his blog to declare “Justin is the new Mike, Beyonce’s the new Tina Turner [and] GaGa’s Madonna.”  Kind of little soon to be making grand statements like that, no?  Then again, this is Kanye West so…

Pete Wentz: Peeved at Gawker for including him, Ashlee Simpson and son Bronx, in their Stalker column.  The result?  “Hate mail” sent to Gawker on his behalf gives them another opportunity to make fun of him.  Good work, Pete.  But we suppose this tweet was Pete’s way of firing back again.  To be continued?

Natalie Cole: The singer, who suffers from hepatitis C, had a kidney transplant this week.  What would we do without organ donors?

Kelly Rutherford: Apparently hiring private investigators to watch your husband doesn’t just happen in the movies.  If you’re Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, it’s just one more twist in your divorce drama.

Twitter: E! Online is planning to incorporate tweets into its scroll at the bottom of all programming.  Is it fair to say now that Twitter has gone mainstream?

SIZZLED OUT: Privileged

STILL SIZZLING: The artist who voiced this iconic animal character passed away this week. Guess the Magic Kingdom will be in mourning for a while…

We never get tired of this family!

We never get tired of this family!

DWTS: Okay, so we admit we haven’t  been following this season that closely.  But we’re still surprised by who won.  Shawn Johnson?  Really?

PEOPLE: And the disappointment continues now that PEOPLE put Bristol Palin and baby on the cover of their new issue. So unnecessary.

Upfronts: Okay, all the news of pick-ups and cancellations is just getting to be too much.  We can’t keep track anymore!  Who wants to make us a handy chart?

MTV Movie Awards: Including exclusive clips from New Moon, the Transformers sequel and the next Harry Potter flick should definitely drive up ratings.  Maybe they’re better off with just a two-hour long clipfest?

The Cosby Show: Absolutely cannot get enough of all the 25th anniversary goodness!

SIZZLED OUT: Huffington Post

STILL SIZZLING: We’d say the cancellation of this show is like Everwood all over again but we didn’t actually watch it.  Guess that was part of its problem, eh?

Will her 15 minutes of fame end even with a 'Dancing' win?

Will her 15 minutes of fame end even with a 'Dancing' win?

American Idol: The season culminates tonight–and tomorrow–with the final face-off between Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.  Is it bad that we don’t have a preference?

DWTS: The season also culminates for this show tonight.  (Coincidence?) But a new article suggests winning ultimately means very little for your career.  Poor Melissa Rycroft.

Fox: Unveiled its fall schedule yesterday with six new shows, including Glee which will actually premiere this week.  None of them interest us but that’s probably for the best.  We can’t handle any more television commitments!

Christina Applegate: It quickly went from a great month to a bad one for Applegate, now that her show Samantha Who? was officially canceled. Bet she’s hoping that PEOPLE cover will lead to a new gig.

Social Media: Gotta love getting instant-reaction from celebs on everything as mundane as daily errands to earthquakes.  Thanks, SM.

Newsweek: Need to pick up the new issue to check out its massive redesign.  Curious to know all your thoughts, too!

SIZZLED OUT: 90210

STILL SIZZLING: Someone bid $13,000 to intern at this on-line publication, one that’s mostly known for letting nearly anyone with an opinion do a blog post.

No one messes with my mama!

No one messes with my mama!

Chuck: After delaying an announcement either day, fans can rest easy knowing Chuck and co. will be back for at least a little while.  NBC gave a 13-episode order, a sign of minimal commitment.

Brooke Shields: This is probably the most bizarre story we’ve heard in a while.  Shields is accusing reporters from the National Enquirer of going to mother’s nursing home and checking her out in hopes of conjuring a story for the tabloid.  Well, they’ve certainly got a story now…

Precious: Very moved by the trailer for this film, starring–of all people–Mariah Carey.  If it’s good enough for Sundance and Cannes, Ms. Carey must’ve done something right.

Wuthering Heights: They’re remaking the film for the umpteenth time with a Gossip boy as the lead.  We still need to read the book.

New York Times: Jayson Blair may be long gone but that doesn’t means the days of on-staff plagiarism are over.  Just look to Maureen Dowd for proof.

SIZZLED OUT: Richard Hatch

STILL SIZZLING: This freshmen series will conclude its first season tomorrow night and return in the fall, even though viewers are hightailing  it out of its zip code.

Battle of the Blondes Part Deux?

Battle of the Blondes Part Deux?

Daytime Emmys: Unveiled the nominations this week with some very interesting choices–or lack thereof: no noms for The View or soap icon Susan Lucci and very few for Guiding Light which needs all the help it can get these days.  Sniff sniff.

Pink: Confirmed that she and Carey Hart are back together.  Makes us very happy. They just seem like a good fit.

The Hills: Back in the day, we were quite obsessed with the Kristin vs. LC fight over Stephen Colletti.  (For the record, we wanted him with LC!) So it’s quite interesting to hear that Kristin will take Lauren’s place on The Hills.  And yet, we still won’t watch the show…

Jay Leno: Here’s an interesting theory: because not everyone likes the funny man and won’t want to be subjected to him as early as 10pm, more viewers will switch to cable channels.  Don’t see why they just wouldn’t flip to another broadcast channel…

SIZZLED OUT: Wanda Sykes

STILL SIZZLING: This iconic reality show winner is being released from jail after evading income taxes on his prize winnings.
